In a candid interview with BBC Swahili, Zari Hassan, the Socialite & Entrepreneur, opened up about her childhood dreams and the reality of pursuing a life of luxury. The CEO of Brooklyn City Colleges lamented, “I thought I’d marry a filthy rich man, but it isn’t easy.”
Zari Hassan, who once envisioned herself adorned in satin gold, shared, “In my younger days, I fantasized tying a knot with a filthy rich man, only to discover its way, way more challenging than my childhood dreams let on.”
The 44-year-old emphasized the stark contrast between her youthful fantasies and the complexities she encountered as an adult.
Expressing her determination to create a luxurious life for herself, Zari revealed, “When I realized I wanted a good life, I got the motivation to say I don’t come from a rich family, but I should work hard to create a rich family for myself.” Her journey underscores the resilience and hard work required to turn dreams into reality.
While Zari briefly experienced her dream of marrying a wealthy man, she acknowledged that there is more to life than money. Despite having been married to Ugandan tycoon Ivan Ssemwanga and Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz, both affluent individuals, Zari found true happiness with Shakib Lutaaya Cham, who may not be as wealthy but complements her life in other ways.
Zari and Shakib celebrated their union in a modest Muslim ceremony in April 2023, followed by an elaborate white wedding ceremony in South Africa on October 3, 2023.
Despite facing criticism for choosing a younger partner, Zari defended her choice, emphasizing that age is not a barrier to a meaningful relationship.
As the CEO of Brooklyn City College (BCC) and owner of various businesses, including a luxury hotel and a chain of schools, Zari Hassan continues to showcase a flourishing relationship with Shakib on social media.
Their journey together reflects shared goals, happiness, and the resilience required to navigate societal judgments.
