The Lango Cultural Foundation is currently facing an uncertain situation, as its Electoral Commission has been abruptly dismissed by the leader of the organization – Won Nyaci Yosam Odur Ebii.
As per the leader’s announcement, the reason for this sudden action is the commissioners’ alleged non-compliance with Won Nyaci’s advice and their involvement in activities that violate Section 8 of the Traditional Leaders Act of 2011.
The Lango Cultural Foundation Electoral Commission is responsible for conducting and overseeing elections within the organization, dedicated to preserving and promoting the culture and traditions of the Lango people.
The Traditional Leaders Act of 2011 establishes guidelines for traditional leaders, with Section 8 explicitly prohibiting their interference in the electoral process.
This decision by Won Nyaci Yosam Odur Ebii is significant and raises questions about its potential impact on the Lango Cultural Foundation and its future initiatives.
It should be observed that unlike Buganda, Toro, Bunyoro, and Ankole, with heritable kings, the Lango Cultural Foundation leader is elected among the heads of the 148 clans that prescribe to the foundation.
As the community awaits further insights into the reasons behind this unexpected removal, it contemplates the potential shifts within the organization.
