In a stunning upset, the Uganda U17 Women’s National Football Team ousted the formidable Cameroon team from the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
The Teen Cranes secured a remarkable 3-1 victory against Cameroon at Stade Militaire in Yaoundé, advancing to the next stage with a 4-2 aggregate score. Notably, the first leg, held at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, ended in a 1-1 draw.
Right from the start, Uganda displayed dominance, relentlessly attacking the Cameroon goal.
Their persistence paid off when Sylvia Kabene, showcasing her speed, took advantage of a goalkeeping error to put Uganda in the lead in the 23rd minute.
Just two minutes later, Esther Nangendo doubled Uganda’s lead by scoring directly from a corner kick.
Despite Cameroon’s attempts to mount a comeback, Uganda’s defense remained steadfast and resolute.
Cameroon managed to pull one goal back in added time, but Agnes Nabukenya swiftly restored Uganda’s two-goal advantage with a goal from a free kick.
With this impressive victory, Uganda now looks forward to the third qualifying round, where they will face either Tanzania or Zambia.
The Teen Cranes have demonstrated their strength and determination on the pitch, earning a well-deserved place in the next stage of the qualifiers.
