Uganda secured another term on the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) after the 44th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council in Addis Ababa.
Despite stiff competition from Ethiopia and Eritrea, Uganda emerged victorious. clinching a seat on the PSC from 2024 to 2026.
In a tightly contested vote on February 15th, East Africa presented four candidates for the two available seats.
Alongside Uganda, Tanzania also retained its position, reinforcing the region’s representation on the council.
This re-election reaffirms Uganda’s commitment to regional and continental peace and security.
Notably, this marks Uganda’s fifth election to the PSC, having served a total of 11 years on the council to date.
Led by Vice President Jessica Alupo and supported by cabinet ministers like Gen Jeje Odongo of Foreign Affairs, Uganda’s delegation showcased its commitment to fostering stability and addressing security challenges in Africa.
Uganda’s return to the PSC underscores its significant role in shaping the continent’s peace and security agenda.
It highlights Uganda’s continuous efforts to contribute positively to regional stability and development, solidifying its position as a key player in African affairs.
