The Uganda Special Forces Command (SFC) has vehemently refuted accusations linking one of its soldiers to the fatal shooting of a National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter in Kampala. Following a social media post alleging that an SFC soldier shot the supporter at Bwaise roundabout, SFC’s public information officer, Maj Jimmy Omara, categorically dismissed the tweet as false and urged the public to disregard it. Omara cautioned against the dissemination of such misinformation, affirming that there was no documented incident involving SFC personnel.
“No such an incident was not recorded anywhere our troops operated. This is to warn the propagators of this falsehood to stop forthwith, otherwise, your continuous false allegations against the institution of SFC shall be met with the full force of the law,” Maj Omara said.
He insisted that the claims are being circulated by “NUP radicals” but noted that the Special Forces Command will not be distracted from its work by anyone.
The allegation emerged shortly after NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) returned to the city from a memorial service in Kiboga for Ritah Nabukenya, an NUP supporter who tragically died in a road accident in 2020. While NUP accused a police vehicle of being responsible for Nabukenya’s death, the police authorities refuted these allegations.
