Russian forces targeted a freight train carrying military supplies provided to Ukrainian forces by Kiev’s Western supporters, according to Moscow’s Defense Ministry. The assault, which included aircraft, missiles, and artillery, struck a train transporting Western weapons and military equipment in the area of Udachnoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic, as stated by the ministry. Udachnoye, situated in the western part of the republic, saw personnel and equipment from the 67th Ukrainian mechanized brigade also hit at a railway loading station in Balakleya, Ukraine’s Kharkov Region.
Over the past day, Russian forces destroyed several pieces of Western-supplied hardware, including US-made M777 and M102 howitzers, an AN/TPQ-50 counter-fire radar, and a British FH-70 howitzer. This attack comes after a recent decrease in Western aid to Ukraine, with US Congressional Republicans previously resisting President Joe Biden’s efforts to secure $61 billion in military assistance for Kiev. The resolution of this standoff earlier in the week saw lawmakers pass the legislation, enabling Biden’s approval.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg remarked on Wednesday that delays in aid from the US and EU had impacted the battlefield, with Ukrainian forces being outmatched and Russia making advancements. Despite this, Stoltenberg expressed optimism, stating that more support was forthcoming. Russia has consistently warned against foreign arms deliveries to Kiev, asserting that such actions would not deter Moscow’s military objectives but could prolong the conflict and escalate tensions with NATO. According to Moscow officials, Western nations’ provision of arms, intelligence, and training to Ukrainian troops implicates them as de facto participants in the conflict.
