President Museveni has withdrawn to his Kisozi farm in Gomba District to make critical decisions regarding an imminent Cabinet reshuffle.
The reshuffle, long-awaited since April last year, is anticipated to address ministers implicated in diverting iron sheets meant for vulnerable individuals in the Karamoja sub-region.
Sources within State House indicate that the time for action has arrived, with most of the implicated ministers likely to face dismissal as Museveni meticulously evaluates his Cabinet lineup in preparation for the 2026 general elections.
Ministers such as Mary Goretti Kitutu, Amos Lugoloobi, and Agnes Nandutu, who were arrested and charged over the iron sheets scandal, are expected to be axed from Cabinet.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who was also implicated, is likely to be redeployed due to her alleged failure to oversee the Office of the Prime Minister effectively.
The iron sheet scandal dates back to the 2021/2022 Financial Year when Parliament allocated funds to support vulnerable persons in Karamoja.
However, only a fraction of the intended iron sheets were distributed, with a significant portion unaccounted for.
President Museveni, incensed by the mismanagement, directed stern action against those involved, labeling them as “thieves.”
Despite the Director of Public Prosecution clearing some officials due to insufficient evidence, Museveni’s resolve to hold ministers accountable remains unwavering.
The impending Cabinet reshuffle mirrors past instances where ministers were dropped for their involvement in corruption scandals, regardless of their stature within the government.
As Museveni finalizes his Cabinet decisions in the coming days, the overarching agenda remains focused on the upcoming 2026 reelection bid.
The reshuffle is a strategic move to bolster his administration and ensure alignment with his political objectives.
