In a remarkable ceremony at State House Entebbe, President Yoweri Museveni, flanked by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, bestowed the prestigious Nalubaale Medal upon Mr. Abdul Katabaazi, acknowledging his extraordinary act of valor in capturing the perpetrators behind the tragic demise of Eng. Daniel Bbosa, a prominent figure in the Buganda Kingdom’s Endiga Clan.
The Nalubaale Medal, a distinguished accolade under the National Honours and Awards Act of 2001, is reserved for civilians who have significantly contributed to Uganda’s political landscape, be it through armed resistance or peaceful protests.
Mr. Katabaazi’s feat, which involved a daring pursuit alongside fellow motorcycle (boda boda) riders, led to the apprehension of the assailants responsible for the cold-blooded murder of Eng. Bbosa on the evening of February 25th, 2024, as he neared his residence in Kikandwa Zone, Lungujja, Rubaga Division.
Eng. Bbosa, 72, revered for his leadership within the Endiga Clan and his role as the director of Transa Electrical, was fatally shot in his vehicle in an act that shocked the community and the nation at large.
During the award ceremony, an emotional Mr. Katabaazi shared his harrowing tale of bravery with President Museveni and other dignitaries, expressing his gratitude for the recognition bestowed upon him. “Thank you, Your Excellency, for this honor and for the opportunity to stand before you today,” he remarked, visibly moved.
President Museveni praised Mr. Katabaazi’s courageous actions, likening his bravery to that of the bush war veterans who fought alongside the President in the liberation struggle. “You’ve embodied the spirit of heroism and resilience. Today, you stand as a bush war fighter, akin to myself,” President Museveni proudly stated, also committing to extend rewards and support to other boda boda riders involved in the apprehension of the culprits.
In a related development, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has issued a public appeal for information leading to the arrest of the main suspect, Lujja Bbosa Tabula, 38, with a substantial reward of Shs 10 million on offer for tips that could facilitate his capture. Tabula, believed to be from Kabango village, Kakoola parish, Mutubagumu sub-county, in Mpigi district, remains at large, with authorities urging the public to assist in his apprehension while warning against harboring the fugitive.
This incident and the subsequent commendation of Mr. Katabaazi highlight the vital role of civic courage and collective effort in maintaining law and order, underscoring the power of community involvement in combating crime and ensuring justice.
