The National Unity Platform (NUP) party has launched Uganda’s first-ever opposition leadership institute. This institute will teach various political and socio-economic disciplines to party members and any willing Ugandans.
The National Unity Platform School of Leadership, launched on Monday by party president Robert Kyagulanyi also know as Bobiwine is located at the former NUP headquarters in Kamwokya, a Kampala suburb.
Addressing the gathering at the grand opening, Kyagulanyi emphasized that the institute aims to counteract the government’s efforts to keep Ugandans uninformed by removing political education from schools and higher institutions of learning.
“Our leadership school opens its doors at a critical moment in our history. Political education was taught in our schools for many years, helping young learners understand Uganda’s political history. The regime scrapped political education from the national curriculum, so opening this school is our humble contribution to bridging the gap and ensuring citizens have the opportunity to learn and contribute to the political processes in the country,” Kyagulanyi said.
“We need leaders who will resist the temptations of power, such as corruption and self-entitlement. Therefore, students at this school will be taught to fight corruption, abuse of office, and all malpractices that have characterized our country’s politics,” Kyagulanyi added.

In addition, Party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya stated that the disciplines taught at the institute will include NUP ideology, the political and constitutional history of Uganda, strategic perspectives of building a new Uganda, and an introduction to modern economics.
Other subjects will include an introduction to human rights, communication skills, the art of political communication, and the principles and practice of institutional leadership.
“We will have all categories of people attending classes at this school, including those without formal education, professionals, and elected leaders,” Rubongoya noted.
