The National Unity Platform (NUP) witnesses a wave of defections among its officials and members in the Busoga sub-region, with many crossing over to the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The most recent defector is Emmanuel Lutaya Mbalasa, formerly the NUP Luuka District coordinator, who has now aligned himself with the NRM. Mbalasa’s transition was marked by a formal welcome from Capt. Mike George Mukula, the Eastern Region National Vice Chairman of the NRM.
In His submissions, Mukula has vowed to fish more opposition candidates to the National Rulling Government in order to achieve president M7’s goals.
“As an Eastern region Bishop, I want to crash opposition, I want to hunt down all those who claim to be huge opposition, I am going to bring them to NRM”-Mukula.
He emphasized his commitment to “fish” for opposition candidates and integrate them into the NRM fold. Recently, flag bearers and mobilizers from Namutumba, formerly aligned with the NUP, also switched allegiance to the NRM in preparation for the upcoming 2026 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Led by Yusufu Dabada, a former contender for the Busiki MP seat in the 2021 general elections, this group formally joined the NRM ranks under the guidance of Hon. Capt Mike George Mukula. Dabada cited the NUP’s perceived lack of a coherent strategy as a primary reason for their defection. With his extensive background in local governance, Dabada expressed his intention to mobilize support for the NRM in Namutumba District, thereby contributing to the party’s presence in the region.
