The NRM parliamentary caucus, under the leadership of President Yoweri Museveni, has resolved to do away with some of government agencies with the goal of curbing public expenditures. The focal point of their deliberations centered around the Rationalization of Government Agencies and Public Expenditure (RAPEX), a measure anticipated to yield annual savings of Shs1 trillion.
During the discourse, President Museveni added that during rationalization, the whole structure of the government should be geared to support the wealth creators since they are vital in the development of the country.
The President also advised the legislators that if they want to be successful politicians, they must help the people they serve to create wealth by sensitizing them to embrace the four sectors of the economy.
President Museveni also believes Uganda;s wealth comes from enabling families, companies, and individuls produse and sell goods/services with calculations.
Denis Hamson Obua, the Government Chief Whip and Chairperson of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus, articulated the consensus reached by the caucus in favor of endorsing the rationalization of government agencies and public expenditure. This endorsement is slated for execution through the enactment of legislation in Parliament, with a sector-by-sector approach.
