Controversial novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, currently in self-imposed exile in Germany following charges of offensive communication in Uganda, is reportedly reaching out to influential politicians for financial support through intermediaries.
According to reliable sources, Kakwenza, once celebrated as a creative novelist but now characterized as an armchair social media propagandist, is residing in Germany and facing financial struggles despite portraying a content life on social media. His alleged attempts to finance a lavish lifestyle and engage in numerous sexual escapades with women have led him to seek funds through dubious means on his social media platforms, primarily X (formerly Twitter). This has resulted in Kakwenza posting defamatory content about prominent figures in Uganda.
While projecting an outwardly happy life online, insiders claim Kakwenza’s living conditions are far from ideal, prompting him to seek financial assistance through blackmail and extortion, especially on social media. He is accused of exhibiting a dual personality—publicly criticizing politicians during the day while privately appealing to them for financial aid through intermediaries and text messages.
Politicians have reported threats from Kakwenza, alleging that he will continue posting negative content about them if they do not comply with his financial demands. Those who ignore his requests reportedly face public backlash on Twitter.
Last year, Kakwenza allegedly sent intermediaries to request 50,000 Euros (over Shs200 million) from the Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among, to cover his tuition and family expenses abroad, with the promise to cease his attacks. Kakwenza has consistently used his Twitter account to launch daily insults at the Speaker.
Additionally, he purportedly approached Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, claiming that a senior minister had hired European bloggers to attack him, seeking financial aid to counteract them. Kakwenza is said to have reached out to several UPDF Generals and ministers, demanding financial assistance, and those who did not comply faced public denigration on social media.
Despite maintaining a tough online persona, sources claim Kakwenza privately contacts senior government officials, soliciting financial support and expressing a desire to return home.
The Prism News reached out to Kakwenza for comments, but as of the publication, he had not responded. In a letter dated August 1, 2023, addressed to the President, Kakwenza accused the European Union (EU) of using his social media platforms to attack government officials. He admitted to initially criticizing governments and individuals for financial gain and signed a Memorandum of Understanding allowing the EU to use his Twitter handle to “raise voices of marginalized groups, including the LGBTQ+ community.” Notably, government officials such as Speaker Anita Among and Senior Presidential Advisor General Muhoozi Kainerugaba have been targeted through his Twitter account.
