Ms. Hadijah Namyalo, head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), has cautioned against people forcing candidates on Ugandans, emphasizing that Uganda is not a monarchy but a sovereign state where leaders should choose through democratic processes.
Addressing journalists in Kampala, Namyalo expressed concern about attempts by certain individuals to push their preferred candidates, such as Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, onto the electorate ahead of the 2026 elections.
She stressed the significance of prioritizing development and poverty eradication over getting distracted by political maneuvers.
Namyalo highlighted the recent launch of the NRM register update by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, urging Ugandans to verify their details and ensure they are registered members of the party ahead of the upcoming elections.
She reiterated that President Museveni is already preparing to run for reelection in 2026, urging those with aspirations to wait for the appropriate time.
