The reformed Karamojong warriors in the Karamoja sub-region have officially received iron sheets, marking the commencement of the distribution process in Abim district. In November 2023, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja flagged off the initial batch of iron sheets, totaling 97,552, to be distributed among 3,752 beneficiaries across all nine districts of Karamoja.
These iron sheets constitute part of the government’s commitment to rewarding the reformed Karamojong warriors who willingly surrendered their weapons and embraced a peaceful existence. The Office of the Prime Minister initiated the distribution in Abim district, targeting at least 28 beneficiaries in the first phase within the Abim town council.
During the launch, Samuel Bigirwa, the Chief Administrative Officer of Abim, confirmed the reception of 10,686 iron sheets in the first phase, intended for 411 households. The distribution, which started on Thursday, is scheduled to continue in other districts, with each parish allocating iron sheets to seven beneficiaries. Additional members will have the opportunity to receive iron sheets during the second phase of the exercise, extending until Sunday in the respective parishes.
