Police in West Nile have apprehended a 49-year-old resident of Obaru cell, Ombokolo ward, in connection with the murder of his wife.
The suspect, identified as Agunda, allegedly killed his wife, 23-year-old Judith Chandiru, on the night of March 1. Reports suggest that the motive behind the murder was the victim’s refusal to engage in sexual relations with her husband.
It is reported that although the couple shared a marital bed, they did not engage in sexual activities due to the wife’s accusations of her husband’s extramarital affairs.
According to Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, the fatal altercation occurred after the victim decided to sleep separately from her husband. Enraged, the husband physically assaulted her, resulting in fatal injuries.
Enanga stated that the police documented the crime scene, examined the victim’s body, and released it to her relatives for burial.
He expressed concern over the rising trend of domestic violence-related murders, particularly instances where husbands resort to violence due to perceived grievances such as denial of conjugal rights or suspicions of infidelity.
Enanga emphasized the importance of respecting the right to life of every individual and urged individuals to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.“We should be reminded that every spouse, partner or lover has a right to life, which has to be respected instead of taking the law in one’s hands.” the police mouthpiece said.
