The late RnB maestro Munu Bernard Paul, affectionately known as BeePee, was laid to rest on Saturday, March 3, 2024, in Eleng, Okwalongwen Sub County, Dokolo district, marking the end of an era for the fallen northern Uganda artist.
The burial ceremony witnessed an impressive turnout, with an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 mourners gathering to pay their respects to BeePee. The large attendance reflected the profound impact BeePee had on the community, evident in the heartfelt tributes and condolences expressed by those present.
Honoring BeePee’s memory, Chief Mourner Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, who conveyed President Yoweri Museveni’s condolences, described the late singer as a humble soul who embraced everyone around him as family. Dr. Jane presented Irene Ejang, the widow, with a condolence of shillings 10 million on behalf of President Museveni, in addition to her personal contribution of one million shillings. However, Ejang, in a poignant moment, requested that the funds be deposited directly into her bank account.
Juma Jammy, the celebrated radio personality from Radio Mega, led a team of entertainers from Gulu in celebrating BeePee’s life, acknowledging him as an icon who lived an exemplary life. Professa Maros, alias Maros Atine, Chairman of Lango Entertainers, lauded BeePee’s contributions to the music industry and encouraged emerging artists to emulate the late singer’s dedication and passion.
Nubian Li, representing singer and politician Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, emphasized the role of musicians as the voice of the voiceless. Li delivered one million shillings from Bobi Wine to BeePee’s widow, expressing solidarity and support during this challenging time.
BeePee met a tragic end on January 24 at Lira Regional Referral Hospital, succumbing to injuries sustained in a motor accident near Front Page Lounge in Lira City. The accident occurred as BeePee tried to navigate past a pedestrian in the late hours of the night. Survived by his wife, Irene Olet Agona, and a seven-month-old daughter, BeePee’s untimely departure has left a void in the hearts of many.
As the community bids farewell to BeePee, may his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire aspiring artists and resonate through the melodies he gifted the world.
