In a significant development for Dokolo district’s political landscape, Ayugi Judith and Auma Lillian Okullo have made the decision to step down from their pursuit of the NRM flag bearer position, aiming to replace the late Cecilia Atim Ogwal as the district’s woman MP.
Their announcement came during a pivotal meeting with NRM senior leaders from the secretariat in Kampala this past Saturday.
With Ayugi and Auma stepping aside, the path is now clear for Adongo Janet Elau to assume the NRM flag bearer mantle. Elau, who previously contested in 2021 but was defeated by the late Cecilia Ogwal, is poised to lead the NRM charge in the upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, independent hopefuls Arao Rebecca, Kia Molly Abang, Amongi Irene, and Dr. Grace Anna Atine have also emerged as notable contenders with strong affiliations to the NRM party.
The recent developments have drawn the attention of key NRM figures, including Rosemary Seninde, who heads national mobilization, and Emmanuel Dombo, among others, who traveled to Dokolo for consultations and support.
Looking ahead, the national chairman of the NRM and President, Yoweri Museveni, is slated to lead the campaign trail for Elau in Dokolo on March 19, ahead of the voting scheduled for March 21.
In a concurrent effort, the presidents of FDC and UPC are expected to rally support for their respective flag bearers during the same week.
Notably, Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal is vying for the FDC flag in her bid to succeed her late mother, Cecilia Ogwal, who passed away on January 18 at the age of 77.”
