Deputy Inspector General of Government, Anne Twino, conducted an inspection visit to Busesa HC IV in Bugweri district on Thursday, February 8th, 2024. However, her findings raised serious concerns about the efficacy of combating corruption in Uganda.
During the inspection, Twino uncovered instances of malpractice, including a health worker charging patients Shs10,000 for scanning services that are supposed to be provided free of charge. Additionally, patients reported that apart from antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), they were required to purchase all other medications from a nearby pharmacy.
Further investigation revealed that the In-Charge of the facility held the position of Senior Clinical Officer, despite the presence of Medical Officers with higher rank. Twino promptly ordered the correction of this discrepancy.
Additionally, Twino noted instances of unprofessional behavior, with one nurse singled out for reported rudeness. These findings underscored the need for urgent reforms to ensure the provision of quality, ethical healthcare services at Busesa HC IV.
