In preparation for Uganda’s hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027, the Budget Committee of Parliament has recommended allocating Shs 288 billion for the renovation of Mandela National Stadium, which will be carried out in three phases. The first phase will cost Shs 97 billion, the second phase will cost Shs 84.996 billion, and the third phase will cost Shs 105.541 billion, covering the indoor arena.
The Vice Committee Chair, Achia Remigio, emphasized the need to include the required funds in the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and budgets for the upcoming financial years to ensure effective funding and prevent last-minute interventions. The distribution of training facilities for the teams across all the hosting stadiums was also advised to be carried out.
