A fresh tragedy has struck Buwanda village, Malongo sub-county, as a 32-year-old woman, Fatuma Nabirye, met a gruesome demise allegedly at the hands of her husband, recently returned from a two-year stint behind bars. Nabirye’s life ended tragically, locked in her own bedroom and subjected to multiple machete blows.
Residents recount hearing Nabirye’s desperate cries during the altercation, yet their attempts to intervene were thwarted by the locked door. Some dismissed the disturbance as a mere domestic dispute. Police spokesperson Diana Nandaula reveals that the husband, with a history of polygamy, harbored suspicions of Nabirye’s infidelity during his incarceration.
Following the brutal assault, the husband, aided by one of his other wives, callously disposed of Nabirye’s body in a nearby cassava garden. As authorities investigate this heinous crime, Nandaula attributes it to the prevalent issue of domestic violence, which plagued the region and dominated last year’s crime statistics.
The victim’s brother, Rogers Mugabi, alleges a vendetta motive, suggesting the husband sought retribution for a past conviction related to cattle theft. Mugabi emphasizes that Nabirye had not introduced the suspect to their parents during their childless marriage.
David Zijja, a councilor for Malongo sub-county, denounces the crime, branding it not only as a legal offense but also as a stain on the community’s reputation. He implores residents to shun such violent acts.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, authorities in Mayuge District are probing the mysterious death of an unidentified man discovered alone in Paradise Lodge. The deceased, who had checked in with a companion, was found lifeless the next morning. District Police Commander Agnes Aanyu confirms that an autopsy will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
