Eng James Nkamwesiga Kasigwa has been appointed as the new executive director of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS). His term began on Monday, May 13, 2024, succeeding Dr. David Livingstone Ebiru, who served from May 2021 to July 2023.
Dr. Ebiru also held the position of Deputy Executive Director of Management and Financial Services at the Bureau for nine years, from September 2012 to 2021.
Eng Kasigwa, an Electrical Engineer, boasts a distinguished career spanning over two decades in leadership and strategic management across multinational corporations, private and public sectors. His expertise includes Science, Technology, Innovation, Standards, and the Infrastructure Industry.
Prior to his new role, Eng Kasigwa served as the Director of Science, Technology, Innovation Regulation, and Biosafety at the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation in Uganda. He also held the position of Commissioner of ICT Infrastructure Development at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.
“The National Standards Council, Management, and Staff of UNBS congratulate and welcome Eng James N. Kasigwa to the Standards family,” read a statement from UNBS on Tuesday.
Mr. Daniel Richard Makayi Nangalama had been acting as the Bureau’s executive director following Dr. Ebiru’s dismissal in August last year by Trade Minister Francis Mwebesa. Dr. Ebiru was dismissed after he admitted, during a COSASE hearing on July 19, 2023, to bribing UNBS board members with Shs100 million, a statement he retracted the following day, claiming it was made in anger.
