Ms. Hadijah Namyalo, head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), has cautioned against imposing candidates on Ugandans, emphasizing that Uganda is not a monarchy but a sovereign state where leaders should be elected by the citizens.
Addressing journalists in Kampala on Wednesday, Namyalo stressed the importance of Ugandans focusing on work and eradicating poverty from their families. She criticized what she described as “selfish politicians” who attempt to impose their candidates on the populace, urging them to desist from bothering the citizens.
Namyalo’s remarks come amidst speculation that Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the First Son and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Duties, is being touted to succeed his father in 2026. Gen Muhoozi also leads the Patriotic League of Uganda, a political pressure group.
She pointed out that certain elements within unspecified political pressure groups misconstrued her message delivered during the official launch of the NRM registrar to launch attacks against her. Emphasizing Uganda’s non-monarchical nature, Namyalo reiterated that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is already positioning himself for the 2026 elections, urging those aspiring to leadership roles to exercise patience until then.
Namyalo’s statement follows similar sentiments expressed by Justice Minister Mr. Nobert Mao a few weeks earlier.
Encouraging Ugandans to avoid being diverted by selfish political groups, Namyalo urged them to verify their details in the NRM register. She highlighted the recent launch of the register update by the President and urged citizens to confirm their NRM membership status so they can participate in the 2026 elections and support President Museveni’s bid to return to the State House.
