Bukoto South Member of Parliament, Twaha Kagabo, has raised concerns regarding the approach taken by the National Unity Platform (NUP) in addressing the issues surrounding Nyendo Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga’s acceptance of a 500-million shilling service award from Parliament.
Kagabo expressed his views during a press briefing held at Parliament, responding to NUP’s recent call for Mpuuga to resign from his position as Parliamentary Commissioner. He questioned whether NUP’s response implied a zero-tolerance policy without allowing room for redemption or repentance for its members’ mistakes.
He emphasized that NUP should have exercised discretion in disclosing information to the public to avoid undermining Mpuuga. Kagabo highlighted that NUP’s assertive approach in handling sensitive internal matters could lead to a decline in party membership and hinder its political objectives of national liberation.
Twaha Kagabo has said that Robert Kyagulanyi, President of National Unity Platform has proved that he isn’t capable of holding the top leadership in Uganda, given the manner in which he handled allegations that Mathias Mpuuga, was paid around Shs500M by the Parliamentary Commission at the end of his tenure as Leader of Opposition
NUP disclosed that, following a meeting convened by its top leadership, Mpuuga acknowledged his involvement in the controversy and issued an apology. Consequently, he was strongly urged to step down from his role as Parliamentary Commissioner with immediate effect.
