Anne Juuko has concluded her tenure as the Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic Bank Uganda, marking exactly four years of exceptional leadership, as she transitions to a new role within the Standard Bank Group.
Information reveals that she will be relocating to Nairobi, Kenya, to assume the position of Regional Head, GlobalMarkets.
During her four-year tenure, Juuko achieved numerous milestones at Uganda’s largest bank by assets, having assumed the helm amidst the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which subsequently impacted the economy for the following two years.
Throughout her tenure, the 43-year-old was praised by her superiors, including Patrick Mwehere, whom she succeeded as the first female head of the institution. Under her leadership, Stanbic Bank Uganda experienced significant growth, with assets increasing from 6.7 trillion Shillings to 9.4 trillion Shillings, and market capitalization rising from 1.33 trillion to 1.6 trillion Shillings as of June 2023.
Former Stanbic Bank Board Member, Samuel Sejjaaka, commended the move, stating that it aligns with the company’s commitment to nurturing talent and providing growth opportunities.
Juuko’s tenure also witnessed the implementation of transformational restructuring, which led to the establishment of the bank as a separate entity within the Stanbic Holdings Uganda Ltd group, alongside other subsidiaries such as Stanbic Properties Limited, Stanbic Business Incubator Limited, FLYHUB Uganda Limited, and SBG Securities Uganda Limited.
Her appointment as CEO in February 2020 came on the heels of impressive financial performance, with half-year profits reaching 134 billion Shillings in 2019. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, half-year results for 2023 reflected continued growth, with profits for the period reaching 200 billion Shillings.
Juuko’s illustrious banking career began in 2001, serving in various roles at Citi Bank in Uganda and Kenya, including Head of Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities, as well as Vice President of Customer Sales and Derivatives Marketing. She later joined the Standard Bank Group, initially as the head of Global Markets at Stanbic Bank Uganda, before assuming the role of Head of Corporate and Investment Banking at Standard Bank Namibia in 2018, and ultimately returning to lead Stanbic Uganda in February 2020.
